Our Mission

Advancing Sustainable Agriculture through Innovations in Soil and Water Conservation

At the Conservation Irrigation Lab, we help growers navigate the ever-changing terrain of sustainable agriculture. We research and help growers implement soil and water conservation practices that advance production goals. We collaborate across disciplines and believe deeply in the power of applied research and cooperative extension.

The Dirt.

The Dirt is a homegrown mix of articles, news, events, and more, related to sustainable agriculture water use in the Midwestern United States and California. We highlight extension recommendations, new scientific findings, fact sheets, position openings, proposed projects, and more. Browse our recent posts below!

Combining Research & Extension

As part of UW–Madison Extension, we offer the latest research and best available science for growers and communities

Our Research Approach

We are scientists translating research into action

Our lab serves farms, while advancing water management. Communities need to evaluate the benefits and tradeoffs across management strategies so they can manage soil and water resources at different scales and time horizons.
