Are you interested in working in agricultural research and the use of cutting-edge technology?

Join the Conservation Irrigation Lab this summer to assist in our project to better develop irrigation scheduling for Wisconsin potatoes! Your role will be to assist in the installation and maintenance of an eddy covariance tower and various soil probes and to collect various in-field physiological and hydrological measurements (e.g., crop height, leaf area index). There is also the opportunity to get experience in remote sensing through both Landsat captures and small drones. The work will focus on a commercial field in Hancock, WI near the UW Hancock Research Station. No experience in fieldwork is required but an interest/enjoyment for working outside is needed.

Location: Hancock, WI

Anticipated Job Start Date: April 6th, 2026 (able to work around your school schedule)

Anticipated Job End Date: August 29th, 2026 (with the possibility of extending)

Anticipated Work Schedule: The measurements you will be responsible for are weather dependent, requiring flexibility in scheduling. This would sometimes require days longer than 8 hours to accomplish tasks. This position can guarantee 20-30 hours a week, factoring in both field and computer work.

Position Pay Rate: $16/hour

Qualifications:

·      Valid US driver's license and ability to obtain driver authorization from UW Risk Management

·      Attention to detail

·      Ability to work outdoors in field conditions

·      Eagerness to learn about potato irrigation scheduling and the tools used

Physical Demands: The student will assist in the collection of physiological measurements and the installation of soil probes. This requires the ability to handle equipment up to 35 pounds, dig holes up to 20” deep, and walk over 2 miles in uneven terrain, sometimes during hot and humid conditions.
