New Article: PFAS Exposure and Human Health Risks in Integrated Crop–Livestock Systems

We systematically reviewed and assessed PFAS sources, human health impacts, assessment and evaluation in integrated crop-livestock systems

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as ‘forever chemicals’ are extremely persistent in the environment and can cause a host of human health risks with repeated exposure from food and water. Groundwater and milk have been found to contain PFAS in dairy states, but there are not yet established guidelines for screening and risk assessment. Dr. Gaurav Jha led this systematic review to better understand PFAS cycling, accumulation, and consider safety measures and protocols for sampling and assessing PFAS in integrated crop-livestock systems.
